Jiang Urges Party to Emphasize Its Political Strength

The Communist Party of China (CPC) must emphasize its Marxist political stance linked to socialism with Chinese characteristics in order to maintain benefits for the people, China's President Jiang Zemin has urged the Party recently.

Throughout its existence the CPC has led the Chinese people as they made great strides forward and achievements in the country's successful revolution against feudalism, reconstruction, and also importantly in the later reform and opening up policy.

"The key reason for the Party's success is its perseverance in building itself ideologically, politically and organizationally and in its work style under the guidance of Marxism," Jiang pointed out.

He stressed that without a political program, an aim or a party line, then a party can no longer be regarded as a political organization.

"As a dedicated Marxist party, the CPC with more than 60 million members must hold on to an appropriate political stance, abide by the Party's disciplinary procedure and requirements and strengthen political sensitivity and awareness, thus guaranteeing the unity of the Party ideologically, politically and organizationally," added Jiang.

Jiang on Analysis of International Situation

The Chinese government will continue to look on both the domestic and international situations with dialectical conceptions of Marxism, said president Jiang Zemin.

The Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and the central

Chinese government have dealt with the recent issue concerning NATO's interference in Yugoslavia's internal affairs and NATO's attack on the Chinese Embassy in Yugoslavia according to the domestic and international situations and have implemented correct principles and policies.

He said that when the situation is good, people should notice the existing problems and try to solve them promptly. When facing trouble and setbacks, people should see the bright future and have full confidence in winning victory. When facing challenges, people should calm down and deal with the challenges after careful consideration.

Jiang Criticizes Party Members Losing Socialist Path

Jiang Zemin criticized some Party members who lost the correct political direction due to weakened political faith and lack of a correct world outlook.

"A Party member, especially an official, should firmly adhere to socialism and communism as his fundamental political conviction, as well as Marxist dialectical materialism and historical materialism as his outlook of world," Jiang said.

"If he is diffident in regard to these factors, he will surely drift off the correct political direction," he said.

While pointing out the misbehavior of some Party members, Jiang acknowledged that "some comrades' confidence about the final victory over capitalism by socialism and the future of the construction of socialism with Chinese characteristics has been weakened".

"Some people, lacking spiritual ballast, have led a life of debauchery, or tried to find spiritual sustenance in feudalistic superstitions and other kinds of negative behavior. Some pursuing personal interests have drifted with the money-worshiping tide and even grabbed state property by taking advantage of their official positions."

Jiang stressed that education in political faith among Party members and officials should be unceasingly enhanced. "Otherwise, our ideological front will be occupied by non-proletarian ideologies. We must remember and pay full attention to this lesson that history has taught us." (Xinhua)
