China took the gold medal of the women's K-2 500m through Gao Beibei and Zhong Hongyan at the canoeing tournament of the 13th Asian Games on Friday. Gao and Zhong was timed at 1:54.64. QL A Thai referee for Asian Games' sepak-takraw competition was shot dead in the southern province of Trag Thursday night, Thai News Agency reported Friday. The report quoted police as saying that at least two unidentified gunmen gunned down Viracha Kongchan, 42, a senior teacher of Tonbakrat-Bumrung School in the province, at close range. Viracha was on his way back home from a farewell party held by the Asian Games Organizing Committee. Police found an ID card at the scene which identified the dead as a referee for the sepak-takraw competition in the regional sports event. The motive for the killing is still unknown. Malaysia won the double snooker title at the 13th Asian Games Friday evening. Chong Tin-Sam and Ool Chin-Kay outscored their Thai rivals of Phaithoon Phonbun and Noppadon Noppachorn 6-4 in the final.
