China Loses Opener in Asiad Water Polo Game

China lost its opener in the water polo competition on Saturday but the referees were to be blamed most at the 13th Asian Games.

"How can we compete in such a condition when three of our attacks were ruled against and three of our players were ruled out of the water with a penalty awarded to our rival, all in the first period," said Chinese coach Peng Zhaorong.

"It's sheer rididule that our players were always to be blamed wherever a foul was committed in front of either goalmouthes, and we usually had to sacrifice one player whenever we scored," Peng said.

Out of the favor of both Kazakhstan and Kuwaiti referees, China lost to Uzbekistan 7-10 in Pool B despite its protests on the spot two times.

Kazakhstan established its lead 3-0 in the first period, a winning cushion against China eventually, with its center Sergei Voronin scoring six goals alone in four periods.

Iran Score 2-1 Win over China in Asiad Soccer

Iran scored a come-from-behind win of 2-1 over China in a crucial match at the Asiad football tournament.

The Chinese team, which had two wins in the second round and virtually ensured a berth in the quarter-finals, started strongly and got awarded at the 9th minute when Li Jinyu beat the charging out Iranian goal-keeper with a left-footer.

But the Iranian team would not give up as only a win could keep them in contention for the other qualifying ticket from the group. Enjoying a domination of the midfield, the Iranian team kept a constant pressure on the Chinese defence line. They outshot their Chinese counterparts and levelled the score at the 16th minute when Karim Bagheri powered home a long-distance shot.

Only three minutes later, the Iranian team surged 2-1 ahead, this time with a header from their star forward Ali Daei.

The second half saw a even fierce battle. The Chinese team made several substitutions but failed to get an equaliser.

The 2-1 victory was not enough to put the Iranian on top of the group as the Chinese team had a better goal difference.

Iran now rank second in the group. Their fate will be decided by the group's another match between Oman and Tajikstan.
