The disciplinary committee of the Asian Games football competition decided on Tuesday to suspend China's striker Hao Haidong for two international matches, a senior Asian Football Confederation (AFC) official said. Bobby Houghton, coach of China's men's team, was also suspended for one international match, said Alex Soosey, director of AFC referee and disciplinary department. The decision was made by the three-person panel of the disciplinary committee headed by Asad Taqi, said Soosey. "After hearing the referee's report, they made the decision under concerned Fifa laws," he said. Hao was banned for spitting in a line referee's face in a brawl, and Houghton for using abusive languages toward referees and an AFC official, Soosey said. He said: "Their cases will be referred to the AFC disciplinary committee for further action in next Febuary." In the quaterfinal between Chian and Turkmenistan, Hao Haidong was sent off in the 68th minute for spitting at the line referee. Houghton's protest was vociferous enough to get him sent to the dressing room in the injury time of the match. China won the match 3-0 to book a fight against Iran in the semifinals.
