THE ASSOCIATION OF EUROPEAN JOURNALISTS

The Association of European Journalists (AEJ) is the sole exclusively pan-European group of individual journalists whose members work in every form of media. It was established in 1963 in the first six countries to sign the Treaty of Rome and now has a combined membership of over 2,500 in 25 national sections based in member countries of the European Union and other countries of the Council of Europe.

Registered under Belgian law, the AEJ is a non-profit-making organization with neither party political nor union ties. It is affiliated to the European Movement and it has a consultative status to the Council of Europe. It has also been recognized as an NGO in operational relations with UNESCO.

Membership is open to all journalists who believe in the need for European integration on a democratic basis, and are determined to defend the freedom of the press and of information.
